Seven Miracles is a new Lenten study by Rev. Gina Anderson-Cloud and the clergy of Floris United Methodist Church in Herndon, Virginia, Seven Miracles invites readers on a transformative Lenten journey through the Gospel of John, guided by the wisdom and experience of four United Methodist clergypersons, a spiritual director, and a long-term UMC church staffer/seminarian. In these pages, you will encounter seven miraculous signs of Jesus-not simply as stories of supernatural wonder, but as windows into the heart of God’s love and the abundant life Jesus offers.
Written in a warm, devotional style, this book encourages personal reflection while offering fresh insights into how the miracles of Christ speak to the struggles, hopes, and longings of our lives today. Each chapter explores one of John’s miracle stories, drawing out the spiritual meaning and inviting readers to consider how God is still at work bringing healing, transformation, and new life in unexpected ways.
This resource is designed not only for individual devotion but also for the life of the church. A built-in group study guide accompanies each chapter, complete with reflection questions, suggested prayers, and space for discussion. Whether used in a Sunday school class, a small group, or a midweek Lenten gathering, Seven Miracles provides a rich framework for honest conversation and shared spiritual growth.
Lent is a season of preparation, a time to walk with Christ toward the cross and the empty tomb. Seven Miracles helps us see that along the way, God gives signs that point us to life-zóé, the fullness of life in Christ. By exploring these miracles together, you and your community will be equipped to enter Holy Week with renewed faith and to celebrate Easter with hearts attuned to the wonder of God’s grace.
Seven Miracles is an invitation to encounter Jesus anew this Lent, in both the miraculous and the everyday, and to discover again the hope of resurrection life.

As I read this crisp, insightful, and well-written Lenten guide, I felt deeply grateful for three reasons. First, I am grateful that a church pastoral team came together to offer their reflections on the seven miracle stories in the Fourth Gospel. There’s something about a team approach that feels so right. Second, I am grateful that this book is available for churches everywhere, so members can go on a Lenten journey together. And third, I am grateful for how this book warmed my heart and invited me to cherish and live my faith more deeply.

I am grateful to the staff at Floris UMC, who worked together to craft a rich resource to support congregations on the Lenten journey. With clarity, depth, and real-life reflections, they guide us through the seven signs of Jesus in John’s Gospel and invite us to read these stories through the lens of our own lives. As a pastor, I am always grateful for resources like this one, created by faithful congregations doing the work of the kingdom and willing to share the journey with others.

Lent can be a season for transformation, growth, and inspiration for a congregation. However, churches need a guide to introduce this ancient season to people in a fresh way. Seven Miracles is that guide. Through studying the miracles of Jesus through the Gospel of John, people are offered hope, and churches can be reminded of the miraculous ways that Christ is still at work today.
Rev. Matt Miofsky
Author of Let Go and The Methodist Book of Daily Prayer
Seven Miracles is an incredible resource for individuals, small groups, and entire congregations during the season of Lent. As each of the authors leaned on their unique experiences with Jesus, collectively they put together a powerful tapestry of reflections that speaks to the missional core of Jesus in this world. This reading is not only a tool for individuals to draw closer to God, but to move those individuals into drawing society closer to God.
